Creating the Pieced Pumpkin Block

Hey Creatives!

In tonight's live in the Linda Bratten Creations Facebook page we will be creating the Pieced Pumpkin block using a foundation paper piecing (FPP) technique. This block will finish 6" x 6" and is a great block to create with extra scrap fabric in your studio. If you do not have scraps,  2 1/2" strips that are at least 6" long should get you started to create this block.

You will want to gather the following additional items if you plan to create along with me:

  • copy the pattern on some foundation paper piecing paper (It is a light weight paper that is easily removed from the seams when finished.)
  •  sewing machine
  •  basic sewing tools
  •  way to press the seams as you go
  •  rotary cutter and mat
  •  add 1/4" ruler
  •  large piece of card stock or index card for folding
  • construction thread in the needle and the bobbin

The pattern is a free download for my Linda B Creative Newsletter subscribers. You can check out the Linda B Creative October Newsletter by clicking here.

The fun starts tonight, October 16th, at 7 pm Central in the Linda Bratten Creations Facebook Page.

See you then!

The Rescue Me Tux Pattern Completed as Machine Applique

Hello Creatives,

I hope that you have been able to squeeze in some sew time this summer.  I have been sharing in my Facebook page, Linda Bratten Creations, how to use my Rescue Me Tux pattern as a machine appliqued panel.  I originally designed the pattern to be used to assist workshop participants to create a faux batik panel

Participants did not need to have developed their artistic skills to draw Tux, they just had to trace the pattern lines to replicate the panel.  We then used a water-based resist and Jacquard Dye-Na-Flow textile paints to add the color.  After the piece dries and is heat set, you rinse out the resist and you have a fun panel to create a variety of projects with.

The past few weeks, I used fabrics and my sewing machine's decorative stitches to create a machine appliqued version of the panel.

This week I will be sharing how I finished my panel to create a wall-hanging and prepped it for free-motion quilting.  I would love to have you join me.  I go live on Monday's at 7 pm Central, in the Linda Bratten Creations Facebook page.

Off to prepare for tonight's live, join me at 7!

A Glimpse of the 2023 Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival Quilts

As some of you know, I was able to be a part of the Baby Lock booth hosted by Missouri Sewing Machine Company during the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival.  It is a quilt festival hosted every other year by the quilt guilds in the area.  During the event, I made a quick tour of some of the quilts entered and created this quilter's candy video for you to enjoy!

I am amazed at what creative quilters create!

You can find out more about the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival by going to their website here.

Off to prepare for tonight's live on Facebook.  Join me there at 7 pm Central.

Baby Lock Long Arm and Pro-Stitcher Getaways

I cannot believe that May is here.  In April I was on the road more than I was at home. However, I received an abundance of fabulous information and training about the Baby Lock Regalia and the Pro-Stitcher software for the Regalia.  I was fortunate to be able to participate in the Baby Lock Long Arm Getaway and the Pro-Stitcher Getaway.

Using the skew feature.

During the Long Arm Getaway, I learned how to do basic maintenance on my long arm, how to use a variety of feet and rulers, the best practices for loading and how to adjust tension for a variety of thread types.  I even was able to record my stitches, alter them and stitch them out.  It is remarkable what these machines can do.

This is the design that I recorded using free motion on the Regalia.

I rotated and enlarged the design I recorded, then stitched it out.

During the Pro-Stitcher Getaway, I became familiar with the program.  I learned how to do updates, use the skew feature, create border patterns, use drag and drop, the best practices for edge-to-edge designs, and how to test your designs on your quilts using the Pro-Stitcher Designer Software.

Practicing Edge-to-edge with the drop and drag feature.

Both getaways had volumes of information that has given me the confidence to dig into my quilt tops and get them done! Thank you, Denise Schober, who was the Baby Lock Training Specialist, and Baby Lock for hosting such a great opportunity.

Merging two corner motifs to fill an area.

If you are interested in participating in a Baby Lock Getaway, you can find out more about them on the Baby Lock website.

Not only did a learn about the potential these products have, but I was also able to meet like-minded participants and look forward to seeing what they will create when they get back home!

I am looking forward to sharing what I accomplish with you!

April is National Serger Month! To celebrate, I am sharing my love of serging with some of the serger projects and patterns that I have created throughout the years. All of the projects that I am sharing have been created using my Baby Lock sergers.

Today I am going to share projects that use the chain and cover stitch.

The chain stitch on the serger embellishes the center of this potholder.

I hope that these projects inspire you to consider the potential a serger with the chain and cover stitch can add to your sewing studio.

Let me know if I share something that you would like to have a class on.

Off to find more inspiring projects to share with you!

Free Motion Couching with the Solaris

I don't know about you, but I am surprised that it is already April.  I just sent my newsletter, Linda B Creative, off and now I am prepping for some big events the rest of this month.

This includes setting new goals and plans for upcoming projects.  One goal is to share more videos on my Youtube channel, Linda Bratten Creations.  I did manage to release a new video this week, so I thought I would share it with you.

I hope that you will enjoy this technique as much as I do.  I also hope my samples inspire you to give free motion couching a try.
